The 2017 Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference this December in Anaheim, California offers therapists the opportunity to learn from luminaries in the field and earn continuing education credits.

Dr. Robert Sapolsky

This year, we are honored to welcome back Robert Sapolsky as a keynote speaker.

Years ago, when I was spending a relaxing day on the beach with my then wife, Lilian, I was thumbing through my iDevice to find an interesting lecture. I began listening to Robert Sapolsky, and within minutes I was mesmerized. I had Lilian listen in and she too became immediately engrossed. Robert Sapolsky’s lecture was filled with wit and wisdom. He is a cross between Stephen Jay Gould and Woody Allen. Subsequently, I avidly read his books and studied his lectures.

I invited Dr. Sapolsky to keynote both the 2009 Evolution Conference and the 2010 Brief Therapy Conference. I found him to be one of the most intelligent, interesting people that I’ve ever met. This year, he will keynote the December 2017 Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference, and will also offer a pre-conference workshop.

Robert Sapolsky is currently the John A. and Cynthia Fry Gunn Professor at Stanford University and holds joint appointments in several departments, including Biological Sciences, Neurology & Neurological Sciences, and Neurosurgery. He also serves as a primatologist and research associate at the National Museums of Kenya. His work has been widely featured in the press, including National Geographic, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. He has also authored: Stress, the Aging Brain, and the Mechanisms of Neuron Death, Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers, The Trouble with Testosterone: And Other Essays on the Biology of the Human Predicament, A Primate’s Memoir, Monkeyluv: And Other Essays on Our Lives as Animals, and Behave: The Biology of Humans at Our Best and Worst.

Robert Sapolsky has received numerous honors and awards for his work, including the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship Genius Grant. He also received the John P. McGovern Award for Behavioral Science awarded by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and was bestowed the Carl Sagan Prize for Science Popularization.

Check out this video of Robert Sapolsky delving into what “Being Human” means.

I also highly recommend that you register for Sapolsky’s pre-conference Evolution workshop, “The Biology of Humans at our Best and Worst,” Tuesday, December 12th. The Evolution of Psychotherapy conference will be held in Anaheim, California, from December 12 through December 18. The Evolution of Psychotherapy conferences, also known as the “Woodstock of Psychotherapy,” have been held on a regular basis since 1985. Over the years the faculty members have used the Conference to share ideas, promote convergence, and highlight unifying principles that guide effective clinical work. The Conference itself has evolved, becoming more clinical—organized around practice-oriented workshops, and offering interactive events.
