The Milton H. Erickson Foundation invites you to attend a four-day supervision workshop to enhance skills and promote both personal and professional growth. This program will be conducted online, but the class size remains limited to only 12 registrants. The Master Class is open to licensed, experienced mental health professionals.

Based on expert modeling and direct feedback of attendee’s clinical work, this intensive workshop is intimate and limited to twelve attendees. Each attendee will assume four roles: two as patient; one as supervisor; and one as therapist with a peer. Each participant will get an experience as a demonstration patient with Dr. Zeig; will rotate into the role of therapist for another attendee; be a patient with a personal issue you would like to work on (not a case); and work as a supervisor of the peer-therapy dyad. The instructors supervise each trio.

The environment is intimate and supportive. The learning experience is rich and fertile. Although focused on Erickson-derived approaches, this program is an opportunity to advance clinical skills no matter what your professional orientation. This course is designed to improve your clinical skills through direct experience. During the four-day course you will be exposed to an abundance of clinical practice that will take you to next level in terms of your own personal and professional development. There will be very little didactic teaching. This class is structured so each member participates in four roles: therapist, supervisor and client (twice). You will be a client for one session with Dr. Jeffrey Zeig and one session with a peer therapist. You will be able to see others practicing in front of the group in a very safe environment. The unique format of this group will help you integrate learnings in powerful ways.

Educational Objectives

  1. Generate interview questions as a means of identifying symptom producing internal sequences.
  2. Identify at least one appropriate treatment target for hypnotic intervention based upon assessment.
  3. List and describe at least two empirical studies affirming the benefits of employing hypnosis as a complement to other established treatments.
  4. Define and discuss the characteristics of interventions that are content-based versus process-based.
  5. create a step-by-step generic sequence for conducting a goal-oriented hypnosis session.
  6. List and discuss at least two factors indicating the appropriateness of hypnotic interventions in both acute and chronic phases of treatment.
  7. Identify at least two hypnotic phenomena that may feature in the onset and course of client symptoms.
  8. Define the concept of “seeding”.
  9. Develop at least 2 homework assignments during hypnosis as a means of increasing treatment benefits.
  10. List at least 2 specific hypnotic strategies that can enhance greater cognitive flexibility.
  11. List at least 2 specific hypnotic strategies that can enhance independent problem solving in the client.
  12. Create an induction that contains elements of solutions.
  13. Create an induction that is tailored.
  14. List five evocative methods.
  15. Describe how to sequence an intervention.
  16. Describe hoe to build and use motivation.

Erickson Foundation (hereby referred to as MHEF) cannot hold the Master Class Training seminars due to acts of nature, war, government regulations, disaster, civil disorder or curtailment of transportation facilitating other emergencies making it inadvisable, illegal, or impossible to provide the facilities or to hold the meeting, each prepaid attendee will receive a copy of related handouts and any other materials that would have been distributed. Fixed expenses will be paid from the pre-registration funds. Remaining funds will be refunded to pre-registrants. MHEF is not responsible for any other costs incurred by pre-registrants in connection with the Intensive Training. Conflict of Interest: Circumstances that create a conflict of interest when an individual has an opportunity to affect CME content about products or services of a commercial interest with which he/she has a financial relationship.

Financial Relationships: Relationships in which the individual benefits by receiving a salary, royalty, intellectual property rights, consulting fee, honoraria, ownership interest (e.g., stocks, stock options or other ownership interest, excluding diversified mutual funds), or other financial benefit. Financial benefits are usually associated with roles such as employment, management position, independent contractor (including contracted research), consulting, speaking and teaching, membership on advisory committees or review panels, board membership, and other activities from which remuneration is received or expected. An accreditation agency considers relationships of the person involved in the CME activity to include financial relationships of a spouse or partner.

Relevant Financial Relationships: Defined as financial relationships in any amount occurring within the past 12 months that create a conflict of interest. They are considered relationships with commercial interests in the 12-month period preceding the time that the individual is being asked to assume a role controlling content of the CME activity. There is not a set minimal dollar amount for relationships to be relevant. Inherent in any amount is the incentive to maintain or increase the value of the relationship.

Role or Activity: Employment, management position, independent contractor (including contracted research), consulting, speaking and teaching, membership on advisory committees or review panels, board membership, and other activities.

Compensation: Salary, royalty, intellectual property rights, research grant, consulting fee, speaker fee, ownership interest (e.g., stocks, stock options or other ownership interest, excluding diversified mutual funds), or other financial benefit.
