Just as the first Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference broke new ground in 1985 by gathering the best and the brightest in the field of psychotherapy, the 2009 Conference promises to continue the momentum. The premier faculty represents the innovation, expertise, and dedication that has helped to define contemporary clinical practice. The first Evolution Conference in 1985 was a landmark in the history of the field. Covered by Time Magazine, The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times, the Faculty included Aaron T. Beck, the late Bruno Bettleheim, the late Murray Bowen, the late Albert Ellis, Mary Goulding, the late Robert Goulding, the late Jay Haley, the late Ronald D. Laing, Arnold Lazarus, Cloe Madanes, the late Judd Marmor, James Masterson, the late Rollo May, Salvador Minuchin, Zerka Moreno, Erving Polster, the late Miriam Polster, the late Carl Rogers, Ernest Rossi, the late Virginia Satir, Thomas Szasz, the late Paul Watzlawick, the late Carl Whitaker, the late Lewis Wolberg, the late Joseph Wolpe, and Jeffrey Zeig. Five years later, in 1990, many of the same names were on that faculty roster but with some new additions: James F.T. Bugental, William Glasser, James Hillman, the late Helen Singer Kaplan, Alexander Lowen, Donald Meichenbaum, and the late Mara Selvini Palazzoli. Keynote addresses were presented by the late Victor Frankl and the late Betty Friedan. 1994's European Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference in Hamburg, Germany, added the late Victor Frankl, Eugene Gendlin, Klaus Grawe, Otto Kernberg, Adolf Meyer, Helm Stierlin and Irvin Yalom to its faculty. In 1995 the Conference included a special section of State-of-the-Art contributions by Claudia Black, Stella Chase, Lynn Hoffman, Joseph LoPiccolo, Peggy Papp, Margret Singer, Francine Shapiro, Olga Silverstein and Lenore Walker. Gloria Steinem was the keynote speaker. In 2000, Michael White was added to the faculty, and State-of-the Art Faculty included Albert Bandura, Claudia Black, Raymond Corsini, John Gottman, Bert Hellinger, Laura Huxley, Harriet Lerner, Peggy Papp, Frank Pittman, and Francine Shapiro. Elliot Aronson and Herbert Benson were keynote speakers. 2005's Primary Faculty included Albert Bandura, the late Albert Ellis, William Glasser, John & Julie Gottman, Mary Goulding, Jean Houston, Otto Kernberg, Arnold Lazarus, Marsha Linehan, Cloe Madanes, James Masterson, Donald Meichenbaum, Salvador Minuchin, Erving Polster, Ernest Rossi, Martin Seligman, Francine Shapiro, Thomas Szasz, Michael White, and Irvin Yalom. Members of the State-of-the-Art Faculty were David Barlow, Judith Beck, Claudia Black, Nicholas Cummings, Robert Dilts, Yvonne Dolan, Harville Hendrix, Harriet Lerner, Monica McGoldrick, Scott Miller, Christine Padesky, Daniel Siegel, Bessel van der Kolk, Michele Weiner-Davis, and Marion Woodman. Hunter “Patch” Adams, Mary Catherine Bateson, and Aaron Beck presented keynotes. 2009's Conference promises to be the most significant conference on psychotherapy ever held.
